Pretty Acoustic Folk From Chris Pureka Tonight at Chop Suey

Sometimes it’s easy to start down one path before realizing you need to totally switch gears, especially when it comes to careers. I mean, how many of us are really using those philosophy degrees as actual philosophers? Sometimes our true callings aren’t apparent until much later down the road.

Chris Pureka actually has a degree in microbiology, but left the lab for the love of making music (luckily for us!) She plays inspiring, melodic folk rock and has a knack for pretty guitar work. And don’t even get us started on her slightly raspy, deep voice that entrances listeners. The former biologist adds an elegant twang to her songs, creating some of the most heart-wrenching but catchy acoustic tunes we’ve heard in a while.

Catch Chris with Kristin Allen Zito (of The Trucks) tonight at Chop Suey.
