Jet City Meet Booty City: Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears at The Croc

With throwback soul and funk bands the latest rage, tonight’s Croc headliner ranks up there with Charles Bradley and Seattle’s own Pickwick as bands leading the charge.

While Bradley and Pickwick spend most of their time on the soul end of the spectrum, Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears are firmly entrenched in post James Brown-era funk. The Austin seven-piece is lauded by fans and critics alike for their commanding rhythm section, spot on horns, emotive vocals and central sense of humor.

If you’re looking for a funk-infused dance party complete with sing-alongs to crowd-pleasers like “Booty City”, The Crocodile’s your best bet tonight.

Listen to Music, Help Japan: Final Night of Seattle 4 Japan at Chop Suey

We absolutely love benefit concerts. Not only do you get to hear great music, but you are also supporting important causes and helping people without even trying. We’ve all been thinking about Japan, but not everyone knows how to help.

For the past couple nights, Chop Suey has been hosting the Seattle 4 Japan benefit show. Tonight is the final installment in the series, and luckily for you it’s a GREAT lineup. One of our personal local favorites, PonyHomie, will be joined by The Quit, The Torn ACLs, People Eating People, an acoustic set by The Young Evils, and many more. PonyHomie, known for wearing bandit-like bandanas while performing, will be selling special red bandanas at the show to raise extra funds for Japan.

Even if you’ve already made a donation to an aide organization, Japan still needs a lot of help to recover from the recent earthquake and tsunami. Come out tonight for some fun music that goes towards a good cause.
