With throwback soul and funk bands the latest rage, tonight’s Croc headliner ranks up there with Charles Bradley and Seattle’s own Pickwick as bands leading the charge.
While Bradley and Pickwick spend most of their time on the soul end of the spectrum, Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears are firmly entrenched in post James Brown-era funk. The Austin seven-piece is lauded by fans and critics alike for their commanding rhythm section, spot on horns, emotive vocals and central sense of humor.
If you’re looking for a funk-infused dance party complete with sing-alongs to crowd-pleasers like “Booty City”, The Crocodile’s your best bet tonight.
