Scotland’s Atmospheric Rock Legends Mogwai at Showbox

Well before The Album Leaf, Explosions in the Sky and El Ten Eleven started receiving acclaim for their cinematic rock arrangements, Mogwai helped put dark, atmospheric, instrumental rock on the map. The now-legendary post-rock band from Scotland has been together for an impressive 16 years and have seven albums to their name, their most recent on Sub Pop after leaving Matador, their label of the last decade.

If you were lucky enough to snag tickets before the show sold out tonight, head to the good Showbox for a night you won’t soon forget.

Two Heads are Better than One: Thao & Mirah Tonight at The Croc

What’s better than listening to a musician you love? Listening to a musician you love when they collaborate with another musician you love. From old classics like the Traveling Wilburys, to new favorites like Middle Brother, to one-off experiments between Queen and David Bowie, two rockstars are better than one. Tonight’s recommended show is just that.

Thao and Mirah have joined forces to create a female indie pop power duo. With Thao’s playful composition and Mirah’s unparalleled lyrics, the two well established songstresses “complement each other perfectly,” according to a recent review by NPR. The two San Francisco-based musicians are the true definition of synergy, and their combined talents create an experience above and beyond their individual skills.
