AA Bondy Brings His Own Shade of Ambient Folk to the Tractor Tonight

Beyond having the distinct honor of being the first artist we see when we scroll through our iPods, AA Bondy ranks among our top 10 favorite musicians that we’ve added to our music collection in the last handful of years. Combining folk sensibilities with ambient leanings, the Alabama native has perfected his seemingly innate ability to embed subtle hooks into his work that beckon you back after repeated listens.

If you’re a fan of understated, yet deceptively ambient folk, you won’t want to miss his set at the Tractor tonight. Be sure to get there early to see LA folk-pop songsmith and Broken Bells’ touring guitarist, Nik Freitas.

Audio Art: Washed Out Tonight at Neptune Theatre

Many musicians work for years perfecting their craft, continually striving to “make it” in the music industry. A few newcomers hit the scene and instantly gain a following that snowballs into an impressive fanbase. Tonight’s featured chillwave act is one of the latter.

When Ernest Greene started layering ambient synthpop from his home only a few months ago, he didn’t expect to rise to such recognition in such a short time. His solo project, aptly called Washed Out, combines airy, droning tones, subtle hip hop beats, meandering melodies and nearly indecipherable vocals to create a psychedelic auditory experience that rivals the likes of Toro Y Moi. Not quite electronica and not quite trip hop, Pitchfork perfectly described his music as “blurred and woozily evocative.”

Listen for yourself tonight at Neptune Theatre with Beat Connection.
