Many musicians work for years perfecting their craft, continually striving to “make it” in the music industry. A few newcomers hit the scene and instantly gain a following that snowballs into an impressive fanbase. Tonight’s featured chillwave act is one of the latter.
When Ernest Greene started layering ambient synthpop from his home only a few months ago, he didn’t expect to rise to such recognition in such a short time. His solo project, aptly called Washed Out, combines airy, droning tones, subtle hip hop beats, meandering melodies and nearly indecipherable vocals to create a psychedelic auditory experience that rivals the likes of Toro Y Moi. Not quite electronica and not quite trip hop, Pitchfork perfectly described his music as “blurred and woozily evocative.”
