Yep, We’ll Be at El Corazón Tonight [Toadies plus Battleme = We’re In!]

Toadies Battleme El Corazon

Most nights, there’s nothing like a trip to El Corazón to make you feel old. With the masses that gather for the usual pop punk and/or metal fare, it’s not at all uncommon to find yourself in a sea of amped up teens. Tonight’s lineup will likely make you feel old in a different way. Old because you can’t believe it’s been 20 years since the headliner’s excellent break-out album.

In August 1994, Fort Worth’s the Toadies released Rubberneck and soon thereafter “Possum Kingdom” became a post-(Seattle) grunge staple. Frontman Vaden Todd Lewis brought his acoustic solo act to the Triple Door a few months back and now he’s returned with the full band to play Rubberneck in its entirety.

Be sure to get to the Eastlake venue on time to see opener Battleme, the side project of Matt Drenik from Austin’s Lions. Drenik successfully creates contemplative, hook-laden rock in that wouldn’t be out of place on a playlist with the Silversun Pickups, Joshua James and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

He’ll be supporting his just-released sophomore album, Future Runs Magnetic, that KEXP Music Director Don Yates describes as “a bigger, more muscular rock sound inflected with glam, folk-rock, power pop.”

It will be a great night for the young and those just playing the part for the evening.

3/26 (Wednesday) Toadies, Supersuckers, Battleme @ El Corazon
