Two Sides of the Country Coin: The Country Lips and The Barr Brothers

Happy Easter to those who celebrate. Happy Sunday to those who keep track of time… And good morning to everyone else.

As we’ve said before, we have a special place in our hearts for thoughtfully crafted country- and folk-soaked melodies. While we’ll gladly spend time in the company of Willie Nelson, Neil Young or Johnny Cash, we often find ourselves fleeing from anything from Garth Brooks, Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney or the like within seconds. Don’t get us wrong, we’d probably appreciate their influences as well. We just like our country served dairy free.

Luckily for us, and you if you’re of the same mind, Seattle serves up two great country-infused options this evening.

If you’re looking for a livelier evening from locals with a self-professed desire to “pay homage to that proud tradition, cranking out debauched ballads with slurred-speech choruses that would make Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard proud,” head over to Belltown to see Seattle-based eight-piece The Country Lips headline the Croc tonight.

If instead, you’re looking for a more mellow night with a talented Montreal trio with a penchant for diverse instrumentation and beautiful melodies, a trip down to Columbia City Theater to see The Bar Brothers will be well worth the drive.
